Criminal Investigation
It is the mission of the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) to investigate crimes and other incidents, in the form of either preliminary activity or of continuing or follow-up activity, bringing each and every case to a successful conclusion; to coordinate all activities from other Divisions which are investigative in nature; and to carry out the overall mission of the Long Beach Police Department.
Communications
The Harrison County Sheriff’s Office communications division is the heartbeat of the agency. Our Dispatchers are vested with the responsibility of answering calls for assistance from the citizens of Harrison County and our visitors. These dispatchers are not only the heartbeat of the department but are the lifeline to those officers on the other side of the radio. Our dispatchers are highly respected and are considered as a friendly voice that is here to help.
Dispatchers provide the single most reliable means of communications between the citizens and the officers responding to calls for assistance. The proper discipline that our dispatchers show when taking calls for assistance are essential in order to prevent confusion and unnecessary loss of life.
Animal Control
The Animal Control Division of the Long Beach Police Department is responsible for the safety and security of animal and citizens in the City of Long Beach. We have instituted numerous programs here in Long Beach that no other Animal Control Agency on the coast utilizes.
Our procedures for holding animals at the police station instead of transporting directly to the Humane Society have saved the city over $300,000 dollars in costs over the last 8 years. It also saves the owner the added expense of paying to retrieve their animal from the Humane Society as well.
In addition, we implement a variation of the Trap- Neuter-Release (TNR) program for cats. We can trap feral cats, have them fixed, and then release at a fraction of the cost of dropping them off at the Humane Society. This program saves approximately $120 dollars per animal.
We also keep a database of animals that have been involved in acts of aggression against of their animals or people within the city limits to try and ensure a safe environment for all.
We welcome anyone who wishes to stop by and see our facilities or want to volunteer to help us out with our animal care program.
